Introducing our Online Sales Counsellor, Sara McCarthy

If you’ve ever chatted with Sara – whether it was on our website live chat, through our social media accounts, by phone or by email – you’ll know her positivity and great energy make her an asset to the eQ Homes team. She came onboard to fulfill the newly created role of Online Sales Counsellor in 2019 and since then has devoted herself to outstanding customer service. We sat down with her to find out more about her life, her job, and what it takes to succeed in an Online Sales Counsellor role.

How long have you worked with eQ Homes?
I’ve been with eQ Homes since June of 2019.

How would you describe your role at eQ Homes?
My role is to be the friendly face that greets potential purchasers online. My goal is to educate potential homeowners on the homes and communities we build and introduce them to our Sales Agents. From there we hope to turn them into happy homeowners.


What makes you such a great fit for this role?
Having a positive attitude is so important and I think that’s something that comes naturally to me. Great communication skills and the initiative to follow up are also really important to a great customer experience. It’s very satisfying to get great feedback when you’ve helped someone out and made their day better.

What’s your favourite thing about working at eQ?

The people! My co-workers have always been so supportive and helpful since day one. They truly are like family.

What’s the most challenging aspect of your job?
It can be challenging to keep up with all of the information about each and every home design we build across all seven of our communities. You have to keep track of so many details, like what design features are standard in each home, which lots have been released, pricing changes and current promotions, how soon we expect people will be able to move in, etc. And you have to be prepared for a lot of random questions, like, “which of your homes have a 2-car garage?” or even things like, “where did you get that lamp in your model home?”

What’s one success you have achieved that you want to celebrate?
I celebrate every time I book an appointment with one of our agents because it means I’ve helped a potential client get to the next step on their home buying journey. I have a little solo dance party in my home office.  Oh, to be a fly on the wall at this desk!

Do you have any advice for someone considering a role like yours?
I’d say do it!This role has allowed me to comfortably get back into the work world after being off with our daughter. I can work flexible hours and mainly from home, so it’s allowed me to balance being a mom and working at the same time – without losing my mind.

How do you spend your time outside of work?
My hobbies including spending time at the cottage, adventuring with our daughter Charlotte and spending time with friends and family.

Who inspires you?
Get ready for the cheese…my partner! He is the hardest working person I have ever met both in his career and at home. He inspires me to be the best version of myself.

Have a good circle of experienced professionals behind you to help guide you through every step of the way – a Realtor, broker and lawyer. Don’t wait to buy real estate; buy real estate and wait.

Do you have any advice for other Realtors?
Do your homework with builders before you refer them to your buyer clients. Reputation, customer service, and client experience are the key to a successful referral. This is why I’ve had 5 clients buy an eQ Home this year.

Do you have any advice for home buyers?:
You can never go wrong buying a home. It is a long-term investment, and I can guarantee you will always come out ahead if you are buying long term. The average home price in Ottawa was $13,351 in 1956 and now it is $407,571 in 2018. Ottawa is one of the most stable markets in North America, and the third cleanest capital in the world. I feel we are still undervalued for a major North American capital city.

Do you have any advice for other Realtors?
Do what’s right for your client. You are dealing with your clients’ most important asset. Take care of your clients’ emotional needs as well. Be respectful and honest. This is one of the best professions in the world. If you do good work you will never have shortage of clients. Go above and beyond.

Second Annual eQ Homes Toy Drive a Huge Success

Ottawa, ON – The holidays are a time of giving, and thanks to an outpouring of community support, more than 1,000 local wish children will receive toys.

Benefiting Make-A-Wish® Eastern Ontario, gifts for the Second Annual eQ Homes Toy Drive poured in at each eQ Homes and Mrs. Tiggy Winkles location. With the help of the local toy store, eQ Homes generously matched each donation toy for toy, and donated a toy on behalf of each new eQ homeowner in 2018, bringing the total number to an incredible 1,041 toys donated.

“We’re so proud of this year’s eQ Homes Toy Drive success, especially since it’s only in its second year,” says Katherine Toms, Digital Marketing Coordinator at eQ Homes. “Our goal was to exceed last year’s toy donation total of 892 and thanks to many generous donors we far exceeded that goal.”

Make-A-Wish® Eastern Ontario grants life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses in our community and are on a quest to bring every eligible child’s wish to life since having a wish granted is an integral part of a child’s treatment. “Our hearts were filled with pure happiness right before the holidays as the countless number of toys started pouring into our office! These toys provide smiles, happiness and a great source of distraction for our wish children and their siblings.  We are very grateful to eQ Homes and their clients for their generosity.  It’s a pleasure and honour to partner with local companies such as eQ Homes who value giving back to their community” says Tanya Desjardins, CEO at Make-A-Wish Eastern Ontario.

It’s a SAMs sweep for eQ Homes

eQ’s SAM awards sweep included best town home model for The Atticus.

Multiple wins for its marketing and model home strategies mean a SAMs sweep for eQ Homes this year.

The builder captured seven trophies at the sales and marketing (SAM) event organized by the Greater Ottawa Home Builders’ Association (GOHBA). eQ also took the Grand SAM for the most wins during the awards luncheon on Tuesday at the Infinity Convention Centre.

eQ’s SAM wins come just weeks after the company scooped up the prestigious production builder of the year prize along with best new planned community for its Greystone Village development at GOHBA’s Housing Design Awards.

“It’s been a great year for awards and sales,” said Tobin Kardish, eQ’s marketing and brand manager after the luncheon. “It’s been a real team effort, and that’s reflected in the response from our homeowners and our peers.”

He said the secret to successful marketing in the housing sector is “caring. If you care about your homeowners and your community, it shows.”

The company scored big across a range of SAM categories, from models and most environmentally friendly builder to top sales representative.

eQ Homes’ River Terraces in Greystone Village won best condo project at the SAMs.

Greystone Village was also in the SAM winner’s circle, this time for best condo project, while eQuinelle, eQ’s golf-course development in Kemptville, snapped up the best community prize. It’s the third year in a row eQ has nabbed the community category, winning last year for Greystone Village, & in 2016, for eQuinelle.
